The shopping strip on Yarra Street to the east of the Warrandyte bridge roundabout will get a major facelift later this year with works to upgrade the footpaths and road frontage set to commence in October this year.

The upgrade is one of the final steps in the implementation of the Yarra Street Warrandyte Urban Design Framework 2005 and aims to enhance the road presentation of the shopping centre and improve pedestrian safety.

The works will include widening and repaving the footpath along this stretch of Yarra Street, with new smoother stones to improve pedestrian safety and preserve the heritage character of the area.

A pedestrian island will also be installed in the middle of Yarra Street to provide a safer pedestrian crossing point from the shopping strip to the Warrandyte River Reserve and car park.

A small plaza park area, including stone paving and landscaping, will be created on the Council owned land at 268 Yarra Street in the middle of the shopping strip.

Council is now commencing the tender process to appoint a company to undertake the works, with construction anticipated to start in early October 2016.
