Five food businesses across Manningham have been awarded Council’s highest award for food safety in the annual Manningham Five Star Food Safety Excellence Awards.

Newly elected Manningham Mayor, Cr Andrew Conlon, presented the winners, a kindergarten, aged care facility, wedding reception venue, local eatery and a secondary school each with a prize and an engraved plaque to display their achievements.

Cr Conlon said this year Council’s Environmental Health Officers performed assessments at more than 500 food businesses within Manningham shopping centres and community facilities.

“Fifty two businesses were identified as demonstrating excellence in food handling, knowledge and compliance with their Food Safety Program and were awarded five stars,” he said.

The top five businesses were presented their award at a Council event on Wednesday, 15 November.

“It’s great to see a variety of food businesses awarded as part of the five star program,” Cr Conlon said.

“I want to congratulate and thank them for their commitment and for playing an integral part in keeping our community safe.”

Council encourages all businesses to strive for a high standard of food safety.

The top five businesses receiving the Five Star Food Safety Excellence Awards were:

• Gloryland Childcare and Kindergarten in Doncaster East
• Allity Greenview Aged Care in Donvale
• Potters Receptions in Warrandyte
