Media Release: Free Pop Up Cinema at Heide

Make the most of the long weekend and bring the family to the free ‘Pop Up Cinema’ under the stars event in the beautiful gardens at Heide Museum of Modern Art on Sunday 13 March.

Come along and enjoy the popular Australian movie Paper Planes, the story of 11-year-old Dylan whose passion for flight and inventive spirit lands him a spot at the Paper Plane Championships in Sydney, leading to a life changing trip to the World Championships in Japan.

Screenings start at 7:30 pm with a 15 minute presentation of Tomorrow Fest, presenting the best short films by local young people that share their ideas about the future. The feature film Paper Planes starts at 7:45 pm.

The Pop Up Cinema is part of an afternoon of art and entertainment proudly presented by Manningham Council in partnership with Heide Museum of Modern Art.

Heide Museum of Modern Art, offers an inspiring, educational and thought-provoking experience of modern and contemporary art, architecture, gardens and social history.

Heide (MOMA) will extend its opening hours until 7.30 pm, so families can explore the current exhibitions prior to the movie screenings, including the new exhibition, Dancing Umbrellas: An Exhibition of Movement and Light.

Heide is offering a special admission offer between 5:00 pm - 7.30 pm with 2 for 1 entry for adults and kids under 12 are FREE. Café Vue at Heide will also be open until 8pm for take away food and beverages.

BYO drinks and picnic dinner, blankets and deckchairs. Softdrinks, popcorn and sweets will also available for purchase during the movie from 7.30pm.

Manningham  Mayor, Cr Jennifer Yang said,  “The Pop Up program aims to bring fun, relevant and engaging events to local neighbourhood spaces, and is part of Council’s ‘Cultural Hubs’ Initiative.”

“This event also supports the ‘Live Well Bulleen’ project which aims to increase opportunities for local residents after residents told us in a 2015 survey that they’d like to see more services and community activities in the Bulleen area.”
