Media Release: Have your say – future plans for Westfield Doncaster

Manningham Council is inviting comments from the community on a proposal that would enable future development at Westfield Doncaster.

Known as Amendment C104 to the Manningham Planning Scheme, the proposed changes will revise and introduce new planning controls to the Westfield Doncaster site at 619 Doncaster Road.

Comments are also being invited on a draft development plan, which has been prepared by Scentre Group, as the owners and operators of Westfield. The draft development plan proposes:

  • An additional 43,000sqm of retail floor space and 18,000sqm of commercial office space generally located in the northern part of the site
  • A commercial ‘gateway’ building, with a maximum height of ten to 14 storeys above a two level podium, in the northwest corner of the site
  • An enhanced and expanded bus interchange at street level, closer to Williamsons Road
  • Improvements to vehicle and pedestrian access to and within the centre, including relocating the existing main entrance from Williamsons Road further north towards Westfield Drive
  • Approximately 7,575 car parking spaces to be provided on site, which will be an increase of 2,793 spaces from what is currently provided
  • Improved public spaces, including increased landscaping, new paving, and a new public forecourt that will enhance the entry to the centre.

Comments on Amendment C104 and the draft Development Plan can be made in the form of a submission. Submissions must be made in writing, either:

Submissions close on Thursday 1 September 2016.

Community drop in sessions

Interested community members are invited to attend one of two drop in sessions to find out more about what is proposed. Anyone can drop in at any time during these sessions. Bookings are not required.

  • Monday 1 August 2016, 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm, Heide Room (upstairs), Manningham Civic Centre, 699 Doncaster Road, Doncaster
  • Wednesday 3 August 2016, 6.00 pm – 8.00 pm, Council Chamber, Manningham Civic Centre, 699 Doncaster Road, Doncaster

Representatives from Scentre Group (Westfield) and Council will be in attendance to assist with any queries you may have about the proposed future plans for Westfield Doncaster, including the amendment process.

Information on various aspects of the proposal will be on display, with experts in town planning and traffic engineering available to answer questions.
