Cheers and the sounds of excited playing were heard across Manningham this week as our playgrounds and outdoor gyms reopened to children, families and exercisers of all ages.

Our workers have been busy removing the protective tape on the equipment and installing signage to ensure the coronavirus (COVID-19) health guidelines are clear. The safety of our community is our top priority during this time.

Playgrounds and outdoor gym equipment were reopened in line with the changes to Victorian Government’s stage four restrictions. Skate parks will remain closed under the current restrictions.

We have been upgrading some of our parks and playspaces in recent months and you can enjoy the newly improved areas now that restrictions have slightly eased.

Most recently, Somerville Reserve in Doncaster has been rejuvenated. The central feature is now a striking new combination play unit designed to appeal to a range of ages. Existing trees have been thoughtfully incorporated into the design and an additional nine trees have been planted in new garden beds to provide screening and shade.

Attractive groupings of large flat boulders and feature logs now offer a myriad of nature play opportunities. A leisurely stroll into the reserve leads to an attractive space were families can sit and relax or enjoy a picnic while younger members explore all the park has to offer.

This delightful park will only improve as the pathway leading through the reserve will ultimately link to parkland in the Tullamore Estate.

Find out more about our plans for the future renewal and improvement of our parks.
