The Manningham Planning Scheme has changed to better protect properties in Wonga Park from bushfire (Amendment GC 231).
Amendment GC 231 applies a Bushfire Management Overlay (BMO) to approximately 600 properties in Wonga Park.
The BMO identifies areas of high bushfire risk, that requires a bushfire risk assessment and bushfire protection measures.
If you have an existing home on your property, then no changes are required. We recommend having a bushfire survival plan during the Fire Danger Period to keep you and your family safe.
If you are planning to build a new home, then you will need to include an assessment of the bushfire risk and consider bushfire protection measures as part of your new design.
If you have a current planning permit application then we recommend you discuss the changes with your planning officer.
To check if your property is included in the amendment, view the map.
View the BMO Factsheet for further information:
If you are planning to build a new home, you will need to consider:
The siting of the building in relation to the bushfire risk
The design of the building for bushfire protection
The on site water supply
Access for emergency management vehicles
Vegetation management

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) has several resources and tools that provide advice on activities you can undertake to protect your property, as well as prepare your own Bushfire Survival Plan.
Now is the perfect time to create or review your Bushfire Survival Plan to minimise risk and prepare your family and home in case of bushfires and extreme weather.
You can access a range of plans and information on how to prepare your property on the CFA and Fire Rescue Victoria websites.

Our National Tree Day event was bigger than ever this year, with over 400 people turning up to Ruffey Lake Park to give a gift back to the environment.
“We normally see around 200 people at this event, so this year the event really exceeded our expectations. We were blown away by the turnout and thank every community member who came along to join the fun.”, says Mayor Cr Michelle Kleinert.
Our target of 1200 seedlings were planted along the Ruffey Lake corridor, all in around 1 hour and 45 minutes. These indigenous plants will play a critical role in restoring the park’s natural environment, building a healthy understory habitat for many smaller species, including lizards and skinks.
We're proud to host this annual event, and provide all our volunteers with the necessary tools, equipment, and plants they need. We acknowledge and thank everyone who came along, including the Rotary Club of Doncaster, who provided a free sausage sizzle.
“It’s a very wholesome event. It feels good to give back, get outside and be hands-on in the dirt! I think that’s why we always see such a diverse crowd; it’s an event that everyone can enjoy.”, says Michelle.

We want to update you on the outcome of our Council meeting held on Tuesday, 23 November 2021, regarding the road treatment options and safety measures at the western section of Arundel Road.
Manningham resolved in part to approve, ‘a partial road closure of Arundel Road west of the Knees Road intersection, (allowing emergency, truck and cycling access only), to address traffic safety concerns raised by the community’.
There was considerable community engagement and we fully appreciate the time and effort everyone took to have their say on the matter.
The partial closure of Arundel Road (west) at Knees Road intersection will provide a safe environment for pedestrians and cyclists to share the road with local traffic.
Traffic movement is not expected to be adversely impacted in the area. The road closure will allow for emergency vehicles, waste collection vehicles and trucks to continue using the road.
A temporary road closure is expected to be installed on Arundel Road (west) at the Knees Road intersection soon and the permanent closure constructed in the next few months.
We thank you once again for your participation.

It plays an important role in the provision of informal recreation and cultural opportunities within its district catchment, including the annual event, Carols by Candlelight. Penderel Reserve is a large reserve linking Penderel Court, Bessa Court and Jumping Creek Road.
The reserve is valued for its ecology, remnant vegetation and significant recreational opportunities due to its size and road connections. The western end of the reserve is within the Clifford Park/ Bend of Isles Biosite 2 and is considered a very high priority in Council’s Healthy Habitats Bushland Management Strategy 2012. The open space and bushland area at the Penderel Court end is suitable for unstructured bush play activities.

Manningham Council is developing a management plan for Ruffey Creek Linear Park in Templestowe and is seeking feedback from the community on how they use the park and what they would like to see for its future.
Ruffey Creek Linear Park is an open space corridor spanning three kilometres and linking Ruffey Lake Park to the Yarra River in Templestowe.
The park offers a bushland experience for pedestrians and cyclists with an off road shared path, known as Ruffey Trail, travelling the length of the linear park with the exception of two sections: along Eumeralla Avenue and between Foote and Parker streets.
The management plan is being developed to guide future development of the park, including works to complete the missing links along the shared pathway, and ensure the park responds to the local community’s needs.
The Ruffey Creek Linear Park Management Plan will incorporate recommendations from Manningham’s Open Space Strategy 2014, Bicycle Strategy 2013 and Bushland Management Strategy 2012.
Manningham Mayor Cr Jennifer Yang said the park is a popular open space area and Ruffey Trail provides a range of opportunities for residents to get active in Templestowe.
“The Ruffey Creek Linear Park Management Plan will provide a long term plan for the future of this important local park, including connections along the Ruffey Trail.
“I encourage residents and interested parties to get involved and have their say to help us develop a plan for the future of Ruffey Creek Linear Park that responds to the needs of our community,” she said
For more information and to have their say, the community is invited to complete a short survey online at www.yoursaymanningham.com.au/ruffey-creek-linear-park or call our Economic and Environmental Planning Unit on 9840 9323.
Consultation closes on Monday 14 December.
