Protecting our environment and biodiversity is a shared responsibility. We are actively working to preserve and enhance our city’s natural resources to ensure they will survive and thrive for generations to come.
These grants are designed to help property owners to care for their land, including tree planting, weed removal and pest animal control.
We also do this by supporting a response to climate and energy sustainability issues, improving how we accommodate and integrate our natural environment alongside our built environment, using environmental best practice in the care and maintenance of our open spaces, and through a range of environmental initiatives, resident support programs and community stewardship.
We encourage our residents to protect and nurture the local environment.
Residents can get involved in a variety of ways including using composting systems to reduce waste, joining your local Landcare group, controlling weeds and pests and attending nature walks and seminars throughout Manningham.
See the links below to find practical ways you can be part of a sustainable solution to preserve the beauty of Manningham for many generations to come.
Find out about new path projects in Manningham including footpaths, shared paths and shared trails ...
We plan the construction of our city’s footpaths, shared paths and trails by identifying the routes that pedestrians use more often on their journeys.
We use community feedback and other key areas to identify this network and locate where new footpaths are needed and plan for their construction.
Works to build a new footpath are prioritised by:
Timeframes for new footpath projects can be affected by factors such as major road projects or large scale developments throughout Manningham.

Join artist Lindy Yeates for an enjoyable walk between the sites of her Sanctuary Project and a discussion about art, life, nature and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Displayed across four sites in Warrandyte, Yeates' Sanctuary Project artworks reproduce detailed panoramic sketches of landscapes in Manningham and on Philip Island, two regions where Yeates found 'sanctuary' during the periods of lockdown.
The project invokes the historical religious concepts of sanctuary and pilgrimage by encouraging visitors to journey from artwork to artwork and find refuge or respite in their presence. It offers a form of restorative practice within nature, encouraging the viewer to re-centre, re-calibrate and remember the places and moments of sanctuary we found during 2020-21, both from COVID-19 and contemporary, fast-paced lives.
Where: Meet at St Stephen's Church, 5-7 Stiggant Street, Warrandyte. You will then walk along the Warrandyte River Reserve, stopping at two artwork locations before heading to the Warrandyte Library for the final artwork.
Cost: This is a free event but numbers are limited and registration is essential.
For more information, contact Arts Manningham on 03 9840 9382 or via gallery@maninngham.vic.gov.au.

About Scott
Scott Hitchins has been working with sustainable, food-producing gardens for most of his life.
He has qualifications in biological science, permaculture design, education, and is a founding member of Werribee Park Heritage Orchard.
Scott has been providing popular workshops and garden-design advice to local councils, schools, and other community groups for many years.
He presents useful facts and skills in a fun and engaging manner. To quote Scott in a recent interview “Get me talking about sustainable gardening and you’ll never shut me up.”
The Victorian Government's proposed underground rail link will connect suburbs from Cheltenham to Werribee.
The Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) includes a Doncaster Station. However construction may be over ten years away.
We are advocating for the Doncaster Station footprint to be set aside as part of Stage 1, to allow for planning of the Doncaster Hill precinct. For an express bus service that mirrors the Suburban Rail Loop Alignment. Providing a public transport connection to key education, healthcare and employment precincts.
Over 125,000 people in our community will benefit from a Doncaster Station. Currently our only public transport option is an over-crowded bus network that is often delayed by traffic congestion.
With Doncaster Hill’s population and traffic continuing to grow, we are urging the Victorian Government to include a Doncaster Station in stage two of the SRL and secure a location for the train station now.
Car ownership per household is considerably high and daily public transport use for employment purposes is below the metropolitan average.
Our bus system is buckling under pressure to provide enough services and meet capacity for our growing city.
We are strongly advocating to the Victorian Government to include Doncaster Station in Stage two of the SRL.
We are working with stakeholders and the SRL Authority to secure a site location for the future train station.
We will continue to work with the Suburban Rail Loop Authority and the Department of Transport to advocate for improved public transport services to Manningham.

Eight Eastern Metro Melbourne Councils have joined forces to compete against cities from around the world in the annual City Nature Challenge. During the four day observation period from 30 April to 3 May 2021, residents are invited to find, photograph and document the native wildlife that lives and grows in our neighbourhoods.
Working together to find and document nature in our area helps scientists and land managers study and protect these species. By participating in the City Nature Challenge, not only do you learn more about your local nature, but you can also make Melbourne a better place – for you and other species!
To get involved with collecting observations on the walk for the City Nature Challenge, ensure you download the iNaturalist app before arriving. You can download the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, or just take photos with your phone and log into iNaturalist on a computer.
